Jubail, KSA - ISD – ROR tandem won the 2017 RSF title 82 - 77 win after seventh game on Tuesday night January 7, 2018 and sealed the best-of-nine match series with 5 wins against 2 loses.
Cebu pride Bernie Taghoy scored 23 points and veteran center Boyd Lota 19 to spark the celebrations around RISAL Arena in Jubail Camp, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Both players are known to be the best of Redland Warriors – the official basketball team of RISAL.
Adrian Zarate, who is deadly in 3-point arc led the FAC-CCD with 34 points, followed by Rey Santos with 12 points only.
The FAC-CCD narrowed the gap slightly in the fourth, but ISD-ROR were able to keep their opponents at arm's length to wrap up the title for the 2017 RISAL Sports Fest.
This season tournament made more exciting as the four different department teams combined to form two formidable and selected best players only. As a result, ISD is joined by ROR and FAC with CCD. Some players were also allowed to play with the other teams to balance the scoring and line-up.
Date of awarding will be announced after the three-point shoot-out tonight. Players to compete are Victor Saldino, Bernie Taghoy, Cian Carlo DeLeon, Mico Peña, Orlando Cayabyab, Boyd Lota, and Agapito Tumagan.
For tournament MVP, candidates are Rey Santos and Adrian Zarate from FAC-CCD, and Boyd Lota and Bernie Taghoy from ISD-ROR.
During the series, many players improved and shown their dominance in scoring. All the candidates for MVP were averaged double digits and some of them scored more than 30 points but only one of them will be awarded as the Scoring Champion for this tournament for scoring the highest number in one game for the whole tournament.
Rookies also emerged like Agapito Tumagan, Ferdinand Canjan and Belencio Diokno. One of them will be named as the Rookie of the Year for 2017 RSF Basketball Tournament.
This year tournament is another success activities of the Filipino communities led by Mr. Ronald Santos (2017 RSF Lead Organizer) with the support from the company for hosting the annual sports event.
